All the Mafia are busy getting ready for our Christmas Craft Fair.
taking place at The Whitworth Art Gallery on 18th December from 10am
but because we know like us you can’t wait we will be using the blog and facebook to share some of the lovely talented makers from around greater manchester that will be joining us ……..
The Little Craft Box Company, is the latest venture from Andrea Banks, who lives in Greater Manchester, with her 3 teenage children and has been crafting for “donkey’s years”! She is normally found making her range of new-creations jewellery from her own handmade art beads, while singing along to loud punk/rock and 80’s music, in her attic studio, which she describes as a “sweat shop” in the summer! Following requests from the ladies from the craft group she runs, for “easy to sew” felt projects, she’s had a slight change of direction and is now producing “Make Your Own” Craft Kits, which have proved very popular. The kits range from a cheeky little dog brooch to a sophisticated Christmas bauble. Everything you need is tucked inside a little Kraft box and includes a gift tag and raffia ribbon, so is all ready to give as a gift. As the autumn colours start to turn grey, and the days get shorter (and colder!), crafters across Manchester can at least hold onto the one silver lining of this time of year; that Craft Fair season is now fully upon us!
So if you are ready to embrace a little holiday cheer – come down to Heaton Moor this Sunday where a number of Craft Mafia members and other crafters from the region will be setting up stall at the Finders Keepers Craft Fair!
Or have a browse of the Big Vintage and Craft Fair going on this Saturday at the Printworks. Where MCM member ‘Betty Raspberry’ will be showing off her work.
… and, if its a little too early to start doing your holiday shopping, why not mark your calendars for the MCM Christmas Fair, on December 18th. A perfect stress-free and last-minute way to but for all the people on your ‘good’ list.

Manchester Craft Mafia was recently invited to the grant opening of ‘Purl City’ a new independent knitting shop in Manchester City Centre. When the email rolled into my inbox, I was absolutely delighted to discover that after many years of city-wide wanting, Manchester was getting the wool shop it deserved!
Better yet, Purl City is a real 3 for 1 offer – giving us a shop with a decadent selection of yarn, wool, and knitting accessories, as well as an exhibition gallery upstairs, that may also double as a meeting area for knitting groups and crafty courses in the future.
With so many stitch and b*tches, knitting groups and other craft groups meeting in the dark corners of pubs and backrooms of cafes across Manchester, it will be interesting to see how the presence of a new wool shop impacts the knit and crochet community… The future promises that this cozy little shop at the corner of Port and Brewer Street, may provide a place for all us Wool-ites to meet and get crafty.

We’re running an ongoing project asking people to submit their own mini building made from whatever material takes your fancy, whether it’s paper, felt, clay, wool, whatever! Just no perishables please! All building sent to us will be included in our final exhibition of a Crafty City at our Christmas Craft Fair!
